My name is Dr. Nadia Brown and I am the CEO of The Doyenne Agency and we specialize in helping clients have the courageous sales conversations needed to create consistent cash flow in their businesses. Despite having multiple degrees, including an MBA and being a leadership development trainer, at the time, who taught women how to shatter their inner glass ceilings, I had a deep dark secret. On the outside, I was gracing stages all across the country, but behind the scenes
The reality is that I wasn’t having courageous sales conversations. I was not talking to enough people. And, when I did get people on the phone, I didn’t consistently convert them.
The truth was my company was hemorrhaging money (far too much going out and not nearly enough coming in), I was beginning to feel like a fraud and it was beginning to cause massive strain in my marriage.
I thought that if I just put it out there, people would beat down my virtual door and pay my fees without me having to ask. You know the thinking, “if you build it, they will come.”
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case and I eventually had to go back to work at a contract job in order to stop throwing money away. I realized that if I didn’t master this sales thing, my dream would die and the temporary job would become my permanent reality if something did not change.
My mindset around sales and my refusal to have consistent sales conversations was due to the thought that I had to be sleazy. This was hindering my ability to serve more people and stunting my business growth. I finally said “enough is enough” and I made the commitment that I would focus on my sales skills and my sales mindset until I got it right. I attended sales trainings, webinars and read books on sales to improve my skills.
While I was doing this, one of my former coaches actually hired me as an independent contractor to do sales for their team. They saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself and pushed me out of my comfort zone.
As I began having more sales conversations, I began closing more sales. Then the unimaginable happened, one of the company co-founders called me and asked if I’d realized the fact that I’d closed over $100k in just 72-hours.
He went on to share with me that no one else in company history had closed sales at that level and that while my style was different, it was clearly effective. My relaxed, conversational approach to sales actually worked!
In that moment I realized that, I’d learned how to make the conversations my own by keeping the things that worked for me and discarding things that didn’t. My confidence had grown by leaps and bounds! I dare say, I was actually having fun. I was closing more sales than I had ever closed. I had become the top sales person in the company and hadn’t even realized it!
Eventually I was tasked with training and coaching other team members and clients on sales. And the feedback was remarkable. People felt that I understood them and helped them develop the courage to have the sales conversations they needed to grow their businesses. They shared that they were having their first five-figure months or six-figure years.
I committed to help women in business step into their power and generate the revenue in their businesses that they desire, but would allow them to leave a legacy and have a greater impact. I didn’t want another woman entrepreneur to feel the way I felt when I was still trying to figure it out.
